The Greys in Southover Street
Live music is returning to a popular pub.
The Greys in Southover Street, Brighton, has announced its live music schedule will commence again from Monday, February 4.
The pub had developed a reputation for attracting an impressive roster of live performers over the years, and featured names including Damien Rice, Chris Jagger and Buddy Holly guitarist Tommy Allsup.
But when the management changed hands late last year the audio equipment had to be replaced.
New owner Nathan Wright has now confirmed the venue is ready to continue entertaining punters, starting with Andy White on February 4, Boo Hewerdine and Polly Jones on February 11 and Hank Wangford and Brad Breath on February 25.

Man of steel wrote:They stage acoustic music. No thrash metal, I guarantee you! It's the quality of the sound that's important, not the volume.
Judging by the amount and size of the new speaker system, I would not like to live anywhere near the place, although it could mean free concerts on the Level.
The fact that they have got a new PA system is very welcome.

Four huge boxes stuck to the ceiling, each containing 3 speakers, 6 of them pointing at the Southover Street window, is not a PA system, and no way are they for acoustic.
I suggest he goes and has a look at them and see if he then has the same opinion.

First people were crying out because the pub might close, then in uproar at Mr Wright taking it over and the prospect of it changing. Now it's remained open and hasn't changed one bit, now it's because the speakers are different.........pl
ease?! Is that all it is??
The music last night sounded brilliant, and looking forward to next week.
Well done for saving the place, keeping the same music and standards!

But I do agree with the rest of his message, no it has not changed a bit.
Same old tired pub, same old boring 2 beers, same old customers blocking the bar, etc etc.
I cannot see how keeping the same standards as a failed pub can save it, I have also never understood how anybody could be charged £10 to go into a public house, possibly into venue room inside somewhere, but not the pub itself, especially as you can sit across the road, drink better beer, and still hear the music.
