Communal bins could be moved following a recent arson attack.

Seven cars, two communal wheelie bins and a couple of bikes were destroyed in an incident in Connaught Road, Hove, in December.

Former city councillor Ted Kemble asked Brighton and Hove City Council to consider relocating the large refuse containers to the top of the street away from the parking bays.

Environment committee chairman Pete West said he would get officers to consider the request.

Well this clearly demonstrates how utterly divorced from common sense our Council's policy makers have become. NEWSFLASH - It doesn't matter how big the communal bins are, they'll burn regardless of size. Here's a suggestion for ex-Cllr Kemble and Cllr West: Perhaps removing any openings from the bins might work? Of course, nobody will be able to put their rubbish in, but at least no-one can set them ablaze.

Asronists - to my mind at least - are a higher priority than the size of rubbish bins. Catch these firebugs before someone is killed. I assume we do still have some sort of police presence in Hove?

The "trailer" on the news front page seems to be from a different story to the one above!
