Brighton shop is stormed by armed policemen

Shoppers were forced to drop to the ground after police armed with sub-machine guns stormed their local Sainsbury’s.

Now people who witnessed the incident have spoken of their horror which took place in the Sainsbury’s Local branch of the supermarket in Western Road, Brighton.

One woman, who was walking her dog past the shop, described how a security guard said: “I didn’t think there would be this drama for shoplifters.”

The 49-year-old, of Brighton, said: “There were two guys on the ground and the police were pointing guns at them.”

A member of staff at the shop said: “They pointed the guns at them and then they took the two guys away.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said the incident in the supermarket on Wednesday, January 30 at 9.50pm was linked to the attempted murder of a man in Slough, Berkshire.

A spokesman said: “No shots were fired and nobody was injured.”

Javarne Adams, of Churchill Road, Slough, has been charged with one count of attempted murder and has been remanded in custody until the next hearing at Reading Crown Court on February 11.

A 20-year-old man from Slough arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed until February 28.
