12:34pm Thursday 7th February 2013 in News
A pair of Romanian friends were attacked in the street because of their nationality.
The two Romanian men were attacked while they waited for a bus in the Old Steine between 3am and 3.30am on Friday, January 25.
The victims, aged 21 and 27 and who live in Eastbourne, were questioned about their nationality before they were punched, chased and then punched and kicked again.
Sussex Police said they were treating the assaults as racially aggravated.
The two attackers are described as white with one 6' tall, 21 and wearing a grey sports jacket while the second was a little shorter and aged about 23.
The attackers were in the company of two females at the time of the attack.
Two Romanian friends suffered injuries when they were attacked by two men in Brighton and police are appealing for witnesses and information.
Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 0361 of January 26.

Nationality has got nothing to do with race. The attack is bad enough whether race is involved or not.
It was however thought that the fact that their nationality was requested before the attack that this was the reason for the attack.
The Race Discrimination act comes into being when ever anyone is treated less favourably because of race, colour, and nationality, ethnic or national origin.
This has certainly been the case since The Equality Act 2010.

CCTV and 10 years with no parole will teach them to respect fellow human beings.

Take it Personally wrote:'Hate' crime is a fallacy. It implies if you are mugged because of your race it is somehow worse than just being mugged! It also implies anyone caught for it will get a harsher sentence. We are meant to be all equal in the eyes of the law, but classing something as a hate crime diminishes that. Why should some victims get special treatment and not others?

depressing.
please leave the country, since you are obviously not happy here.
arguing about "oh, not racist cos..." is pathetic. saying "hope puts people off" is the same.
I have reported you to the Argus, and posted your comments on Facebook for all to see. You racists always hide behind semantics.

nothing to say to most of you posters - utterly dismaying to read your openly racist comments.
