Day of special events at Brighton and Hove libraries

Authors will hold story telling sessions as part of National Libraries Day.

Libraries across Brighton and Hove will hold a series of free events to mark the occasion today (Saturday, February 9).

Among them will be eight local authors reading from their published works in Hove Library from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Jubilee Library is marking the occasion in the run up to Valentines Day by holding an erotic fiction event Between the sheets – Sex in the City Library from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Coldean library will hold a Caribbean carnival at 11am.

In Westdene and Whitehawk libraries we are offering to show customers who are new to the internet and computers how to surf the web and get online from 10am.

Anyone who borrows an item at any library in the city will be eligible to enter a draw for a selection of prizes.

Geoffrey Bowden, chairman of the council's culture committee, said: “We are committed to ensuring that our libraries are at the heart of our communities.

“That's why we've created something of interest to all age groups - literally from babies to grown-ups.

“We'll also be encouraging people to discover the wonders of the web, showing people our new free e-books service and generally telling people what useful and inspirational places our are libraries are.”
