Civic service puts cash in Mid Sussex charity coffers

Hundreds of pounds were raised for charity this month at a council civic service.

Mid Sussex District Council welcomed dignitaries from across the county for its annual civic celebrations on February 3.

The traditional service, held this year at St John’s Church in Burgess Hill, welcomed prominent county officials, including the mayors of Crawley and Worthing Borough Councils and the chairmen of Arun, Chichester, Lewes, and Horsham District Councils.

A Candlemas Choral Evensong service was also led by Father Kevin O’Brien and the director of music, James Thomas.

The congregation came together in song and prayer, with the charity collection raising nearly £400, due to be split equally between St John’s Church and the Mid Sussex Branch of Parkinson’s UK.

The church plans to spend its share of the donations on improvement and refurbishment works over the next few years.
