Fighting abuse with urban art in Brighton

Teenagers from the Brighton Yout Centre created a mural as part of Sussex Police's Talk To Us campaign
Eye-catching murals are being used to help encourage young victims of domestic violence to come forward.
The move is the latest part of Sussex Police’s Talk To Us, We Can Help campaign, which is focusing on urging people to report domestic abuse.
Teenagers from Brighton Youth Centre and urban art agency Wet Paint Productions worked with officers from the Brighton neighbourhood policing team and anti-victimisation unit to design and create the murals.
They spent Saturday, February 9, painting the side walls of Bagelman on Bond Street and Costa Coffee on London Road after both businesses backed the scheme.
At present, most calls for help over domestic abuse do not come from teenagers, but police and partners believe that they can still face problems in their relationships and are trying to bring the issue more into the open.
Fay MacDonald, the co-founder of Wet Paint Productions, said: “The young people, a group of 16 with an average age of 12, have responded brilliantly to this project.”
