Mixed views for Brighton street chalk talk

It is intended to brighten up the front of an empty shop in a busy shopping street.

But has this quirky hoarding in North Street, Brighton, gone too far?

Dozens of people have scrawled suggestions on the blackboard after it was installed with the simple words of “Before I die I want to ….”

Among the suggestions written on there include “write on a wall with chalk”, and “play at the Albert Hall”.

Local street photographer Warren Bickely, 30, was among those to find the board fascinating.

But Averil Older, of Goldstone Villas, Hove, said: “I’m not sure if it is right image we want to be giving people visiting the city.

“People can write anything they want on it so it’s full of swear words and bad language.”

Good old ex councillor older.. Swearing is everywhere love! Elections must be coming up, for her to raise her head out of the pub off western road.

Is this the same Cllr Older who is on record as making no distinction between tagging and graffiti and that she viewed them equally disgusting?

"Mixed views"

Indeed, you mention one in favour and one against. Outstanding investigation piece.

What a pity that standards of education and respect have dropped. I would have used the opportunity to make a comment on sensible matters, like the fact that 18 pubs are closing every week.

Always good to see the F word making an appearance in the photo just across from the 4th prompt down :)

Well done Argus for taking a stand I say!

I also noticed that. I also noticed what was written under the 5th prompt.

Last week I had a comment removed and received a warning. This was for using words with the letters replaced with asterisks. I was told by Sarah Booker that it was unacceptable in a family newspaper.

Some parents might be upset that their children can read what is in this photo. The words do not even have asterisks. A sign of double standards Ms Booker.

With regard to the comment by Telscombe Cliffy. I think the colour of the board is PC providing we refer to it as a chalkboard.

I'm afraid I can't see the swear word you're referring to.

I will blow up the image and blur it out.

(Please note I'm Mrs Booker-Lewis)

Mrs Booker-Lewis I appologise for getting your name wrong. I was unaware that your name was double barreled.

In any future posting or e-mail correspondence I will now use your title of Mrs. I was using the title Ms as I did not wish to be accused of sexism. We live in such a PC world, it is like walking on eggshells. ;-)
