The first acts for this year’s Great Escape Festival have been announced.

London quartet Bastille have been named as the first headliner with the likes of Brit Award-winning Tom Odell and hotly tipped The 1975 providing support.

The festival, which is being held for the eighth year in Brighton and Hove, will see more than 16,000 music lovers watch hundreds of bands across 30 venues from May 16-18.

Among the other confirmed acts are the melodic King Krule, US outfit Title Fight, 1940s lounge singer Eddi Front and dancehall DJ David Rodigan.

Festival director Kat Morris said: “The core aim of The Great Escape is to champion new music, and it’s great to be in a position where we can give festivalgoers an exciting cross-section of new artists to engage with.

“In our eighth year we are completely focussed on delivering another programme that wholly embodies this ethos, and our initial line-up is full of promise for this year to be one of our best to date.”

Past years have seen performances from now household names such as Adele, Bat for Lashes, The XX and Foals.

More acts are to be announced soon.

Early bird tickets for the three-day event are available for £45.
