Brighton and Hove City Council has pulled a burger from its school menus.
The council announced today that the Red Tractor Burger was taken off the menus.
The council said in a statement this was “a precaution”.
A statement said: “Further to recent media articles regarding beef products Eden Foodservice are extremely confident that no contamination has occurred in any of our beef products as a result of robust due diligence processes we have in place with our suppliers.
“However, as an added precaution we are removing our Red Tractor Burger from our menu until we have received the satisfactory guarantees from our suppliers.
“This is the only brought in beef product we use in our Brighton and Hove school meals and means that on Tuesday, February 26, only we will not be serving the advertised burger on the menu but will instead be serving either pork sausages in a bun or chicken in a bun.
“Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
“In the meantime, may I reassure you that the only beef we serve is fresh British Red Tractor beef via our supplier ABP.
“We can guarantee unequivocally this meat is of the highest quality and free from contamination as ABP operates a slaughterhouse and processing plant in a single site and does not use any imported meat.”
