Singer says Hove speed camera crash made him local hero

A rock singer has claimed his close encounter with a speed camera made him a “local hero”.

In 2010 Bad Seeds frontman Nick Cave smashed his Jaguar car into a camera in Kingsway, Hove, putting it out of action for weeks.

The singer and his two sons walked away from the crash unharmed.

In an interview with a national newspaper, he said: “I became a local hero – I took out the camera along the seafront with my Jag.

"I was the toast of Brighton for about five days.

" Little goths came and prayed at the scene and wrote ‘Nick Cave was here’.”

Never heard of him. Just shows how famous he is. NOT. Should change his groups name to Bad Drivers rather than Bad Seeds

Just as well he was standing when he gave his interview, otherwise his voice would have been a bit muffled

The Argus should be more careful using the word "famous".

Some people are famous in the sense that anyone of wit and intelligence knows their name and work because of the quality of said work. Nick Cave is one of these.

Then there are people who are famous because they're on the idiot box a lot. These people are, on the whole, a waste of oxygen - which is ironic as every mouth breather in the country knows them although they've never achieved anything of note and will be forgotten in 5 years time.

I thought Nick Cave played Wicksy in Eastenders, as I know he lives up that way somewhere.

Hey ho, I was wrong.

Nick Cave is such a hero. I like the way the headline simply reads 'singer' and then you find out it's one of the most accomplished songwriters of our generation. The post above where the guy mocks him for not being famous is hilarious!

More personalities like Nick Cave would be warmly welcomed by me.

If you haven't heard of Nick Cave you are pretty ignorant, and if you don't see that he was joking you have no sense of humour.

He's actually a top bloke, and very very famous in Australia and New Zealand. I sometimes used to see him walking his dogs in Kemp Town, always smiled back if prompted. If you don't know who he is, why bother writing a comment, just go back to listening to your Kaiser Chiefs and Coldplay albums, no one cares about you.

A tribute...

The Brighton Song -
Let you're dog sh#t around me
- I'll burn the West Pier down
The high street is all history baby
As every shop is closing down

Please, see The Proposition (written by Nick Cave and starring Ray Winstone).
