12:40pm Monday 18th February 2013 in News By Bill Gardner
A woman punched a would-be mugger in the face when he tried to snatch her handbag.
The bruised thief ran off after trying to rob the 21-year-old as she walked home from work in Bognor Regis on Wednesday February 13.
She was walking through the underpass which leads from Longford Road to Gordon Road when she saw a man coming towards her, talking on a mobile phone in a foreign language.
As he approached her he grabbed the strap of her handbag, which was on her shoulder, tugging it several times.
But the woman resisted and punched the man in the face, so he let go of the handbag and ran off towards Longford Road.
The suspect is described as white, in his late 30's, 6' tall and of medium build with a bald spot on the crown of his head and the of his head is razor shaven.
He had a tooth missing from the front right upper jaw (not from the punch), a tattoo on four knuckles on his right hand. He was wearing a brown leather jacket of quilted square pattern, grey track suit bottoms with two vertical grey strips down the leg, and black trainers.
PC Hazel Cox said; "If you were in the area and saw this man, or think you know who he might be, please call us via 101 quoting Serial 1141 of 14/2. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
