Thief steals mobile phone in Brighton city centre

A thief stole a mobile phone from a young man in a city centre street.

At about 3am on Saturday February 16 the 21-year old victim left Hedkandi night club before walking up West Street, and then left into North Street.

When he was near the Subway sandwich shop he was approached by a man who started chatting to him. The man suggested a short cut to the bus stops in Old Steine, which is where the victim wanted to go, and guided him to Palace Place, where the man was joined by several other men.

They then threatened the victim and the suspect took his mobile, an iPhone 5 valued at around £500.

Detective Constable Caroline Ingold said; "The suspect is described as black, about 24-25 years old, 5'9", of slim build and wearing a browny green jacket, jeans and black shoes.

"If you were in or around West Street and Palace Place shortly after 3am on Saturday and saw anything of what happened, or if you have been offered a cheap iPhone 5, please contact us via 101 quoting serial 0226 of 16/2. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111."

Yeah! Keep your nut down! Just go through life existing. Don't interact with other human beings except over the internet because life might be dangerous. Best policy indeed.

Surely if he walked up West Street and turned left onto North Street he would have ended up at Churchill Square/Dyke Road, Not Subway?............J

I think the public will feel a lot safer as soon as the crime statistics can be further manipulated to show a fall in violent crime.

Lol yes , we may have to change the way crime is reported too,! Maybe don't count domestic violence.!
Sorry but allowing someone to show you a short cut? You don't know! Hardly street wise! Surely the police have CCTV in north st ... West st?
Same old nonsense! Does the cameras only catch speeding cars?

Maybe he walked backwards up West Street then turned to his left down North Street towards Subway...but on a serious note you don't really expect the Argus to get all the facts correct in a story do you? normally they can't even manage a spell check.
