Two pensioners were seriously hurt when their car crashed and flipped over onto its roof.
Emergency services were called to the A67 in Cross In Hand at the junction with Meres Lane at 1:40pm this afternoon after two vehicles collided.
The 90-year old man driving one of the cars and his 93-year old woman passenger were trapped in an overturned car and were released by firefighters.
An air ambulance took the woman to Queens Hospital Neurological Centre in Central London with what is currently assessed as a significant head injury, although she is conscious.
The man was taken by road ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with injuries which are not assessed as serious. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
The road was closed for more than three hours while investigators examined the scene but is now open.
