Two pensioners in hospital after car overturns at Cross in Hand

Two pensioners are recovering in hospital after their car flipped onto its roof.
The couple were driving a white Toyota Corolla along the A267 at the Cross in Hand yesterday (Monday, February 18) at about 1.40pm.
They crashed into another car at the junction of Meres Lane.
The 93-year Mayfield man and his 89-year old woman passenger, were trapped when their vehicle overturned and were released by Fire and Rescue.
The woman, also from Mayfield, was taken by air ambulance to Queens Hospital Neurological Centre in Romford, Essex, with head and back injuries.
She is currently in a stable condition not assessed as life threatening.
The man was taken by road ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with non-serious injuries but he stayed in hospital overnight for observation.
A 72-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman from Heathfield in the other car, a silver Vauxhall Astra, were unhurt.
The A267 was closed until 5.30pm, and emergency services and the highway authority are grateful to drivers for their patience during the closure.
Sergeant Dan Pitcher of the Sussex Road Policing Unit at Polegate said: "We would like anyone who saw what happened to contact us via 101 quoting Operation Ontario. You can also email us at collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk."
