Check elderly in bad weather

People are being urged to check on their neighbours after the Met Office issued a cold weather alert.

West Sussex County Council put out the warning with temperatures set to dip below freezing over the coming days.

A spokesman said that health risks to the young, elderly and those with medical conditions may be increased as a result.

It is recommended that homes are kept to a minimum of 21c in the day and 18c at night.

The local authority added that mobile phones should be nearby and that vulnerable neighbours are checked.

My dear wife bless her ( a pensioner herself), visits 2 elderly widowed neighbours at least twice a day to make sure they are OK. She says it's a very small thing to do and feels useful. It would be nice to see all of us doing the same.
