Petition to bring physiotherapy back to Seaford

A petition has been launched calling for physiotherapy services to be returned to Seaford.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has been struggling to find a suitable location to provide physiotherapy in the town after it learned its base at Seaford Day Hospital was due to be sold.

Patients are still given their initial assessment in the town but now have to travel to Newhaven Polyclinic, Eastbourne District General Hospital and Amberstone in Hailsham for treatment.

Seaford town councillor Sam Adenji said: “This new arrangement is unacceptable as it will present many problems for Seaford residents.

“This is why I have launched a petition calling on the hospital trust to restore the provision of physiotherapy services back to Seaford as a matter of urgency.

“We must keep putting pressure on the trust by campaigning until physiotherapy services are returned to Seaford.”

A trust spokesman said: “We have gone to great efforts to find a suitable alternative location in Seaford for our physiotherapy service.

“It is our desire to continue providing this service in Seaford but so far we have been unsuccessful in our search for a new location.

“Local people can be reassured that we working with our healthcare colleagues and doing everything we can to ensure a physiotherapy service is provided in Seaford.”

For all the clinical benefit physiotherapy provides it would, in most cases, be cheaper and just as effective to pay for a visit from someone whose done a 1 day course in massage.

Most of the referrals seem to be for very old people to chat whilst someone encourages them to be bothered to do what they've been doing perfectly well for the previous 80 years - get up and walk.

Physio seems pretty pointless, people get old and bits fall off - stopped spending millions rather than just being honest with people who would gladly bankrupt the country if necessary rather than accept a few aches and pains and either mobilise themselves or give up gracefully.
