Drivers facing delays on A27
6:50pm Monday 25th February 2013 in News
Drivers are facing long delays on roads across Sussex this evening.
A car has spun on the A27 eastbound carriageway near Hollingbury, causing delays of up to half an hour.
Police are in attendance and the road is expected to be cleared soon.
On the westbound carriageway, drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes due to an accident at Alciston.
Motorists are also stuck in traffic on the A259 near Newhaven because of overruning roadworks.
Crews from East Sussex County Council were scheduled to finish repairing the A259 between Newhaven and Seaford at 4:3pm but the road is still partially blocked more than two hours later.
Journeys that would usually take a few minutes are taking more than an hour.
On Twitter, Sarah McAdam said: “It's been nearly an hour from Piddinghoe to Newhaven, not even reached Newhaven yet. Nightmare.”
A spokeswoman for East Sussex County Council said the work should be finished by tomorrow morning.

Road or rail.It can only get worse
Is your journey really necessary, in this essentially rural county?
