Brighton MP to head future of NHS meeting
A public meeting on the future of the NHS is taking place next week.
Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas, pictured, will head the speakers at the meeting, which has been organised by trade unions and local action groups.
The aim is to bring together those opposed to the Government’s shake up of the NHS.
Under the banner Defend our NHS Brighton, the meeting will highlight the impact that privatisation and cuts on local services will have in Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area.
Other speakers include local health worker and Unison member Stephen McLean, Anne Marie Waters from South London Keep Our NHS Public and an activist from the Lewisham Save Our Hospitals group.
Steve Guy, the chairman of Defend our NHS Brighton, said: “This will be one of the most significant meetings to be held in Brighton this year, demonstrating the strength of feeling and desire to keep the services in the local community provided by the NHS.
“We believe service users get a more professional and cost-efficient service from within the NHS and there is no other way to prevent faceless shareholders from denying patients much needed healthcare as they strive for a quick profit.
“We really encourage people to come along and have their say about the future of healthcare and how it should be delivered in the local community. It’s their service and it should be their choice.”
The meeting takes place at the Friends Meeting House in Ship Street on Thursday, March 7 at 7pm.

People are not stupid. You're party is splintering, and we see through you and your like.
Profit over people. How many more must die to make people like you and your Tory buddies a few extra millions? Go away.

It is a meeting of protest groups organised by trade unions.
Not quite the same thing and a completely false headline by the Argus.

Is Lucas touching Brighton Station in relation to the newly announced development or the forthcoming changes to the concourse etc?

I can tell you, having had treatment in a local private hospital and an NHS hospital in London, give me private any day. Faceless shareholders are preferable to careless NHS staff.
The local private hospital calls 999, an NHS ambulance (with skilled paremedics) takes you to an NHS Accident and Emergency Unit, where you receive top of the class immediate assistance.
But then, there is little or no profit in A and E, so the private sector doesn't want it.
In an organisation as big as the NHS there will always be some problems, but to insult nurses and doctors with your generalisations, tells us more about your politics than anything else.
And if you want a bit of counter-evidence, about what happens when core NHS services are privatised, try an internet search for the Devon GP Service, or the ones in London - all in the papers recently - some of the results are horrendous.

Clearly not Brighton and Hove then where a St John's ambulance arrives instead of the expected paramedic unit and takes you to A & E where you join the queue for 8 hours ?

Think of the state of the railways at the moment, the same corporate mess-up and focus on profits is almost about to affect people in most need of good care.

Oh do go away Morpheus. Just state the fact you are Tory, and not dealing with reality or facts. This has all been done already in similar recent stories and you were found out there already.
