Do you know who the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner is?

More people could identify the former Brighton pupil turned glamour girl as Katie Price than they could name the police and crime commissioner.

The Argus found that only 14% out of 50 people asked could name the Sussex PCC Katy Bourne, but 84% could name the former Patcham High School celebrity Jordan.

This comes as a national report found only one in 10 people could name their police and crime commissioner.

The report by the Electoral Reform Society found that 90% of people in England and Wales could not name their PCC.

In Brighton, only 38% were able to name their local MP and only 12% were able to name the leader of the Brighton and Hove City Council as Jason Kitcat.

The PCC elections turnout across Sussex was just 15.82%, only marginally better than the 15.1%nationally.

Katie Ghose, chief executive of the Electoral Reform Society, said: “This was a flagship policy designed to reconnect the public and the police.

“Yet after spending £75million, nearly 90% of Britons have no idea who their elected police and crime commissioner even is.

“November’s bungled poll failed both candidates and voters.

Elected commissioners

Government mismanagement has handed our elected commissioners a poisoned chalice, and it remains unclear how they can overcome it.”

The Home Office has been criticised for not having the expertise or resources to run elections.

The department responded to the report by saying: “The Home Office will look at the points made, along with the conclusions of the Electoral Commission’s upcoming assessment.”

Ms Bourne said: “My greatest frustration prior to the election was that members of the public were not given sufficient information to understand my role and the opportunity that it brings for Sussex. However, I am working hard to reverse this by meeting as many residents as I can and I am always delighted to hear from them and address their concerns.”

PCC candidate? She IS the PCC. (Unless there's about to be another election and I've missed the announcement?)

But no, I don't know here name - but then I couldn't name all my councillors either.

Perhaps relative anonymity is preferably for the likes of Katy Bourne, Caroline Lucas & Jason Kitcat. They all expect to be paid huge salaries by the public for achieving nothing of note for the people they're supposed to be representing.

Katy Bourne, the PCC, is about as much use as Katie Price.

What an absurd news item! So the 'Argus' sent their team of professional researchers to discover how many could identify the two Katys ..... and were presumably horrified by their findings .....

One of the two had been pictured by 'Argus' and the rest of the media for more than twenty + years, displaying her implanted boobs --- the other, first mention (and hidden boobs) for a few weeks.

Was a research study really necessary?

One characteristic they share -- most would expect neither of them to add to local community life in any serious sense.

So for the purposes of accuracy the question should be "Do you know who your PCC candidates were?".

The inflated Katie is known but very few, if any, care. Maybe that's why she was travelling down the A24 at high speed last weekend so everyone could see?

Well we all know who Cameron is but he still doesn't take any notice of public opinion, so is it any surprise that voters are so disenchanted with the concept of democracy ?

A candidate, or nominee, is the prospective recipient of an award or honor, or a person seeking or being considered for some kind of position. http://en.wikipedia.
