True - they're under threat, but the Greens don't care about them. They appear ideologically opposed to trees. Look all around the city and felling is taking place. Their supporters are out again with their chainsaws, adding to the numbers of elm, ash and other trees already cut down in Wild Park. They are intent on destroying the woodland, displacing nesting birds illegally, and fencing the land to create a sheep farm. They completely ignore the fact that over 1770 people signed a petition opposing further destruction. I think trees represent a permanence in the landscape that this scientifically ignorant, urban, self-absorbed group will never have, and this is why they despise them. They're eco-vandals who deserve to be shown up for their total hypocrisy.

It's not just a tree, Brighton and Hove have virtually the only mature elms left in Britain, maybe in Europe. We lose a few to disease every year (sadly the ones by the tea rooms in Stanmer Park have now gone), so wait a few years and this one will inevitably go as well as the disease will win eventually.

IF I thought that by losing the tree we could have a scheme to enable traffic (yes cars) to move more freely to enable people to travel better then I might agree to losing it a few years before it's time. But I don't think that's going to be the case.

Thanks for the biology lesson. So 'thats' what they do, ha.

I like trees. We should have more of them in the city. But the removal of one old tree, albeit an elm, does not mean I want any more trees removed like you suggest.
