Hove residents call for new footbridge Hove residents call for new footbridge

Campaigners are calling for a safer route across a busy dual carriageway.

Dozens of children and parents have to cross Hangleton Link Road in Hove every day on the way to school.

Residents led by ward councillors Dawn Barnett and Tony Janio, want to see a footbridge over the highway.

It could also be used by parents going to the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Coun Barnett said: “They have got bridges in the Old Shoreham Road, Hove, and in West Sussex near the colleges. “There’s money in the kitty for it and, with all the 20mph and cycle lane spending, maybe they should find some money for the safety of the children?”

A council spokeswoman said it had a points system for pedestrian crossings and this request would be considered as part of the annual crossing request assessments.

this is classic Something the residents need and is for safety is on the back burner because it doesn't suit the Green's spin! Councilor West was in (crocodile) tears at the last transport meeting pleading for the ridiculous 20MPH zone to be passed 'I don't want anyone else to die,' (sob)
Yet here they could actually spend some cash for the common good.
Of course it is miles from their Hanover Mung Shoot Stronghold and if a kid gets hurt or God forbid killed they can blame the disgusting motorist and be assured it is not one of their supporters children involved.
Janio and Barnett are two of the better Councilors who work hard for their electorate and must be screaming at this odious bunch of idiots running the City BUT the solution is there for them make the Reds and Blues Unite for the Common good of the City and take over from this minority incompetent green slime!
They could put party idiotical differences to one side and use the next 2 years to sort out the mess they have caused!

Where is there a bridge in Old Shoreham Road, Hove?

Quite right there should be a foot and cycle bridge over this road as it is dangerous to cross, however you have to ask the question, as it is such a priority, why was this not built under the recent Tory administration? They had little concern for road safety then. indeed, there was a Tory administration in place when the road was built, why was the bridge not built then? I suspect a cheap Argus headline is the aim here.

They also have a bit of a cheek having consistently voted to restrict the council's budget and they apparently support the barking Barnet council idea of slashing services and privatising what is left yet want to commit the council to spending close to a million or more!

Now the traffic on the Lewes Road is in one lane and slower than the previous 40mph, people are crossing it all over the place and ignoring the pelican crossings.
It's more dangerous now than ever before. People have been lulled into a false sense of security that they can cross.
Someone will be seriously injured yet this council are not interested in people and their feelings just projects, targets and vanity projects.
They are dead inside.

Was wondering that too, perhaps Councillor Barnett could elucidate! The only one I can think of is just west of Kingston Lane on the way to Holmbush.

Runs north alongside the big Sainsburys where the West Hove golf course use to be. The roundabout in the picture above is just west of Hangleton Manor, on the Link Rd being between Old Shoreham Rd and the A27.

I think the question was 'where is it a dual carriageway', not where is it.
Unusual to see anyone building a footbridge nowadays. Ever so expensive and nobody uses them anyway. Why do you want to climb all the way up there and back down again when it's easier to dash across like you always did.

Please join this facebook group, as a way of communicating about a potentially safe crossing for residents of Portslade and Hangelton, and hopefully updates about any progression.
