Two in just over a week. What special training do these drivers get?

And where above does it say it was the ambulance drivers fault?

That is a very good point.
I'm sure the outcome will blame the driver though..as it's easier than blaming the electrical box!

I don't believe I did apportion blame. However by the very nature of their job they require driving skills beyond those of the normal motorist.

So we can comment on a minor RTA in Hove which none of us witnessed but strangely comments are still switched off on your third most-shared story.....

Glad nobody was hurt.
That junction was a dream this morning and ran very smoothly without the traffic lights. Please can you leave it like that!
Much better than normal.

There was a car also involved. Who is more likely to be at cause, the highly trained ambulance driver, or your bog standard motorist?

II think it can be deduced that as the ambulance had its blue lights on, it went through a red light, which is technically illegal but they are entitled to do, so long as the road is clear, which in this case it would seem not.

Driving past this spot this morning at 7.15 the damage to the wall into the park is vast and the signal control box is smashed to this was by no means a slight shunt.

Just noticed that the ambulance in the picture is a London Ambulance

I passed just after the accident happened, it looked like the car driver went through on green and the ambulance red. It looked awful. glad no one was seriously injured.

No extra driver training is going to avoid some other motorists making incorrect decisions, although, it does say the ambulance hit an electrical box, so, maybe they DID avoid a more serious collision by taking quick avoiding action. Better to hit an electric box than another vehicle or person - think about it that way

How about we leave the ambulance drivers alone. They save peoples lives, and the only way they can get to you quickly is by going through red lights. If you are waiting for an ambulance you are going to be pretty annoyed if it takes 60 mins as it stopped at all the red lights and queued in traffic.

How many (reported) accidents are there involving ambulances? Not many.

If an emergency service driver passes a red light whilst trying to save lives they are viewed as some sort of demon.
When a cyclist ignores a red light they are viewed by many on this site as heroes.

Stop knocking the ambulance crews. They are trying to save your lives. If occasionally it goes wrong so what ? these things happen.

ARGUS not allowing posts on its suck up article today on Tory MP Mike Weatherley

HE says in it "Squatters are middle-class, society-hating, political extremists, who want a dysfunctional medieval wasteland, where an ENGLISH MAN's CASTLE(!) no longer his home."

QUARTER of ALL TORY MP's are LANDLORDS!

'Coincidence'? He outlawed legal squatting = many dying. He's suing website that says so, has 'contacted police'

Tory Argus faithfully prints this hateful cr*p, and 'coincidentally' allows no posting replies!

The kicker is, in the SAME ARTICLE the police say "He hasn't contacted us about suing anyone!"

Spread this and stop this nasty little man!!

Please could the public refrain from commenting on something they know anything about. Crews are under a great deal of pressure. Criticism is not the answer. Please consider your own driving standards.

Far more advanced than your typical car/van driver.

Since it's fair to assume none of you were there at the time, None of your comments have any validity at all.

Even if you were there, witnesses are unreliable, but at least you would know a bit more about it.

None of us know what happened, but we can at least be pleased there weren't any serious casualties based on the report above.

Not sure there has been much criticism towards them if you read back, merely concern.

By the way this is a comments section so are you saying we shouldn't use it unless we have a full and factual dossier on each and every subject?

Is it correct that ambulances are meant to slow down to 5 mph when going through red traffic lights?

Traffic legislation/regulati
ons provides that on any occasion when a vehicle is being used for police, fire, bomb or explosive disposal, National Blood Transfusion Service or ambulance purposes, and the observance of a prohibition conveyed by the red signal, including portable traffic signals, would be likely to hinder the use of that vehicle for the purpose it is being used on that occasion, then the prohibition may not apply. The vehicle shall not proceed in such a matter or at such a time:

a. As is likely to cause danger to the driver of any other vehicle on the road, or as to necessitate the driver or any other such vehicle to change its speed or course in order to avoid an accident, or

b. In the case of traffic which is not vehicular, is likely to cause danger to that traffic.

At least the picture represents the time of day the incident took place so 50% correct.

I should show this comment to the mother of my best friend who was killed in a collision with one of these wonderful lifesavers.

Shall I just shrug my shoulders and say "these things happen" while she dissolves in tears remembering her dead son?

The fact is if the ambulance involved wasn't driving hell for leather and had sirens on my friend would probably still be alive. "So what...these things happen"
