Sussex set for day of snow

Snow on the South Downs today Snow on the South Downs today

Bus and rail services have been hit as snow falls across the county.

On the trains, Southern services are being dirsupted around Haywards Heath, Pulborough and Horsham while the Brighton Mainline has minor disruption.

On the buses, Brighton and Hove buses are reporting problems to their 12 services because of the snow gathering on the A259.

Council gritters have been out overnight to clear main routes.

The Met Office is predicting that up to 5cm of snow will fall up to midnight tonight.

It is then expected to be dry and bright tomorrow with the snow expected to stick around in the morning.

For regular updates see our live snow blog and dedicated snow section.

It's only a matter of time before we shut the whole country down at the sighting of a snowflake in Finland . . . . how pathetic we have become . . .
There's a snowflake on my doorstep - oh what to do!

What with the weather here, the state of the country and the shadow of "thermonuclear war" originating in North Korea I wonder what the point of going on is?!

Paronomastic titillation, a decent cup of coffee in good company and the promise of a sunny day some time in July! That's it ((:

Must be the laughing stock of every other country in the world when it comes to snow, or the amount of it anyway.

I cannot understand why the headline is "snow causing bus and rail disruption" and see video and we get to watch a video of the pier with virtually no snow on the beach and lots of wind and a horse in a snow covered field and then a final shot at the pier again, how is this video related to bus and rail disruption. And why we suffer in this country is media using stock photos and videos totally unconnected with the actual disruption itself. If you are stating disruption then at least let people see the disruption, road conditions and maybe then people would stay at home.

Lewes road gonna cause more disruption all year that a foot of snow!- let alone a millimetre.

Dare say Coldean Lane will be no-go should it get to an inch deep!

Not surprised the gritters haven't been out even though paper says they have.I live in town and walk to work and there was certainly no grit on the roads this morning and it wasn't even sowing when I walked in. Typical of Brighton though everything comes to a standstill and some poor people suffer that have to leave their vehicles and walk home. A friend of mine left work at 4pm to go home to only be kicked off the bus at St Dunstans as they were terminating there. Then she had to walk to her mum's alone to Peacehaven and she finally walked through the door 5 minutes ago and it is now 9.55pm-6hrs to get home and she is only 20yrs old. How fair is that?

The risk one takes for playing up on a bus I'm afraid, spraying graffiti on the seats or trying to pull open the emergency window isn't going to get you very far on your journey is it? We all know the sort, Burberry caps, gold chains and trackies.
