It will be feeling exceptionally cold with strong winds gradually easing.

The maximum temperature is 4C.

Tonight there will be scattered snow showers across East Sussex and there is a risk of ice on untreated surfaces, as a widespread frost occurs with temperatures falling to -1C.

Many places will start dry, tomorrow but scattered sleet, hail and snow showers will gradually reach many places through the afternoon.

Funny how Brighton & Hove buses aren't running but I got the Stagecoach Coastliner 700 from Lancing this morning at 6am. Yes there was snow on the roads but they were passable with care.

And I remember Brighton & Hove buses have snow chains, as they tore up the roads last year I think using them when there wasn't enough to warrent them.

does the coastliner serve all the sideroads around the brighton area, they have a responsibility for it's passengers and staff and if roads(especially hilly ones)are deemed impassable or dangerous they cannot run,do you really think they want to lose money with buses standing still doing nothing, and did you not think if snow chains damaged roads last time it may be the reason there not being used this time, but i suppose your just one of the people who constantly knocks the company whenever you can without ever really thinking about what your point is.

Some people love to put down Brighton and Hove buses at every opportunity without thinking what they're actually saying.

I know a bus driver who got stuck in Hollingbury yesterday and around 50 buses across B & H had to be abandoned yesterday evening because conditions became so dangerous. I am far from B & H Buses number one fan but I think on this occasion they are in the right. The city is very hilly in places and most routes serve hilly areas at each end of their routes. The 1 for example serving Whitehawk and Mile Oak, both impassable in the snow! The 700 route is pretty much, mostly, along the coast road, so I don't think you can compare!

Come up into Hangleton and see why buses couldn't run ! Or indeed any of the hilly parts of the city. Buses can't use snow chains in snow like this ( and didn't last time despite your stupid idea that they did ) - I suggest you try putting them on your car and see how quickly your tyres get wrecked !

Sigh.

They were.
The strong wind blew it off the roads, and it didn't grip to the roads as they were not wet - they were icy.

So get off the subject as its boring and does recognise the fact there were lots of gritters out doing the best they could.

Oh good grief.

The gritters did the best job they could.
The wind blew the grit off the roads as soon as it went down.
As soon as there's cars queued due to an accident the roads ice up quickly due to non moving traffic.
Did you expect a helicopter to grit your roads in the midst of a jam?

Get realistic - grit can only achieve so much which is why it's not bothered with in snowy countries - the drivers buy winter tyres.

So if you don't want jams take responsibility and buy winter tyres.

Hear hear, and learn to drive in adverse conditions and LISTEN to the constant traffic reports!

surely this new story should be taken down seeing as it's now probably out of date? unless more snow is actually forecast for later today (as of 1400)

We where listening for traffic reports and reading the argus to spot any trouble areas, but did not hear one mention of the trouble on the coast road to Saltdean & Peachaven until it was to late and we could not turn around.
