Motorist run over by his own car in Portslade

A motorist was run over by his own car in chaotic conditions while queueing in traffic on a steep hill in Fox Way, Portslade, on Monday night (March 11).

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The victim had got out of his car to try to avoid an oncoming bus, but his own car then started to move and ran over his leg.”

The spokesman added that PC Julian Harrison-Jones, PC Emma Gee and Sgt Chris Durrant went to the aid of the injured man.

He said: “What should have been a five-minute journey ended up taking an hour as the officers fought their way by car and then on foot to reach the injured man.

“Several times they had to get out and help move vehicles that were stuck in Hangleton Lane.

“When they reached the injured man, a public-spirited driver helped to transport him to the police car and then he was driven to John Street police station in Brighton, where an ambulance was flagged down to take him to hospital.”

Karl Jones, owner of Moshimo in Brighton, said he called the police when he saw the man get run over.

He said: “The poor guy stopped his car and got out but because of the ice, his car didn’t stop.

“When I saw what happened I called the emergency services and he was helped by a paramedic and the police.”

It's not funny. A bit more education on the risks involved in icy conditions would not go amiss.
