An aspiring Sussex singer has progressed to the regional finals of a new teen singing competition where she’ll look to take the crown.

Yassi Vaziri, 17, qualified for the regional finals of the Teenstar competition, which will be held at the end of the month.

Yassi from Hove, who has been singing from a very young age, impressed the judges with her song ‘Faith’, a self-written pop song.

Although, she admits pop songs weren’t always her first choice to sing.

She said: “I used to sing mainly classical songs, but I have always loved pop, so now it feels right singing my own pop songs.”

The young singer, currently in full-time education, is now in with a shot of being at the national final of the competition, which is held at the Indigo2 at London’s O2 Arena.

'Feels great'

Yassi said: “Qualifying for the next round feels great, it's a bit like a boost for me.

“It would be absolutely amazing if I got through to the national final.

"I never feel like I'm as good as the people I'm against, but I’m going to work hard at it, and hope that the judges like my performance.”

Teenstar is a nationwide competition which searches for the UK’s best teen and pre-teen singers, songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres.

Chris Grayston, TeenStar events coordinator, said: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer.”

The Brighton Teenstar regional finals take place on March 30 at the Hove Centre.
