There were cheers all round as a school celebrated its biggest prize-giving event.

Hove Park School, the most improved school in Brighton and Hove, hosted the night at Hove Town Hall with guest of honour Clare Mackie, the pro vice chancellor at the University of Sussex.

Nearly 800 guests were entertained with dance and drama excerpts from sell-out school musical Little Shop of Horrors.

Headteacher Derek Trimmer said: “The evening was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the huge achievements of those students who constantly and consistently push themselves to go the extra mile.

“It was great to share in their success and to have an opportunity to thank their parents and the staff for their role in supporting this achievement.”

This story was on the Brighton and Hove News website almost a week ago and they got the name of the guest of honour right. It was Professor Richard Black not Clare Mackie.
