Blessing for threatened Brighton elm tree

Stephen Hendry who spent time up the tree starts off the blessing Stephen Hendry who spent time up the tree starts off the blessing

A tree threatened with the chop was blessed by residents in a special ceremony.

Brighton and Hove City Council gave the historic elm in Vernon Terrace, Brighton, a two-week reprieve after protesters camped in it for three days.

The tree was to be felled as part of the revamp of Seven Dials junction.

With locals now drawing up ideas for an alternative, more than a dozen people gathered around the elm for an inter-faith humanist ceremony.

Among those present were ten-year-old Holly Dove and her nine-year-old brother Joshua who wrote a special blessing.

This was after they took food and drinks to the protesters last week.

Yes, blessing the tree will do the trick and make BHCC sympathetic to the cause.

Laughable.....
I read in another article that this was a historic tree.
What is the history surrounding the tree? Was it the one Charles I hid in perhaps?

Now it is plain for all to see that the Green Party and its acolytes are an irrational cult.

If the blessing works, could they pop round to the Chamber of Commerce next? The local economy could do with all the help it can get right now.

Perhaps they should just carve the name "Roger French" into it's bark.

These magic words seem to get the council to do his bidding in all other matters.

So what exactly is wrong with the tree, that gets the Argus Moaners so hot under the collar? Is it in the middle of the road in the way of traffic? No. Is it encroaching the pavement, thus maybe getting in the way of an Argus Moaner's granny's mobility scooter? No more than almost every other tree in Brighton. It is an elm tree, and if you remember most of them were wiped out by Dutch Elm Disease - Brighton has some of the only ones left, and this is a healthy specimen. It should be saved.

This is unreal, just over one tree? My word. Have people got nothing else better to do with thir lives? If I drive past these freaks I shall be shouting abuse at them.

I expect the kids quite enjoyed it though. Harmless enough.

Perhaps a candle-lit vigil would be appropriate. They seem to solve most other problems.
