Brighton and Hove Buses backs the biosphere bid

Back the Biosphere promoted on the back of a Brighton and Hove Bus Back the Biosphere promoted on the back of a Brighton and Hove Bus

A bid to get world protection for an environment has literally received the backing of this bus.

Public bodies, environmentalists and schools have come together to get Unesco status for the Brighton and Hove and Lewes area.

As part of the campaign “for a world class environment”, Brighton and Hove Bus Company has agreed to include details of it on the back of one of its vehicles.

The scheme is part of a wider consultation to inform the public about the bid and to ask them whether they support it.

Does that include the bus which was absolutely belching thick black smoke out as it trundled up Coldean Lane last week.
The number 251 was stamped on the back window and some ad message about it being a breeze by bus.
More of a smog would be more accurate.

Argus, it's time for an update on the hybrid buses introduced last year. Have they reduced emissions, are they practical to drive and maintain and comfortable to use? Any plans to introduce more?

UNESCO =

You mean its all a sham?

I know the petrol heads won't like it but I don't see what is objectionable to the aspiration of becoming a biosphere reserve.

Brilliant gravy train for those with irrelevant qualifications, huge egos and a lot of front. They usually speak in those patronizing soft whispering voices.

It would be more Eco if these huge vehicles making hundreds of journeys along the Lewes road weren't empty. I cycled behind three number 25s last week which were bumper to bumper and almost empty.
Bizarre.

Isn't a biosphere one of those sci-fi domes that keeps all the pollution in and the riff-raff out?

I hate the fact I have to drive to work, but working shifts in 12 miles away means I have to.

I hate the fact it costs more for a family of four to travel into town by bus when all the cash stolen (?) from car ownership was meant to improve public transport

I hate the fact petrol is so expensive and we are now being made to drive at the most uneconomic speed in areas that a mobility scooter can pass me by

I hate the fact cyclists don't bother using the 50%+ of the roadway that has been segregated for them (even though they are not legally required to do so)

I hate the fact that everyone lies when screwing the car owner or "petrol head" when claiming it's Bio or green or environmental when what they really means is easy cash machine.

If "they" were really Bio aware there would be a Park & Ride scheme and joined up plans to meet the needs and wishes of all the stakeholders, not just the knee jerk reaction that never seems to work

Simply because this is a huge waste of public money, bringing no tangible benefits, and taking money away from the needy and vulnerable. It's yet another egotistical vanity project for the Greens.

Have you forgotten that only last month, Labour wanted to cut the budget for the Biosphere Bid by 50%, specifically wanting to use this money to help the poorest in society, targeting the savings to help the homeless?

I guess painting this sign on the back of a bus is payback to the Council from B&H Buses for the millions of pounds of public money they're received to help their business through the construction of bus lanes?

Amazing, they're still allowed to continue charging extortionate fares that will do nothing to get people out of their cars.

And don't forget the city council has dropped down the carbon offset ratings table and has one of te lowest levels of recycling in the UK.
And don't forget there are two recycling centres in the city yet the one in Hove closes on a Saturday so all the city's cars and vans come up little old narrow 20mph Coombe Road to reach Wilson Avenue where they sit on a summers day for an hour waiting to recycle waste.
We can't wait for this summer now the Lewes Road bus lane is in operation because currently Coombe Road has a traffic queue from top to bottom all day thanks to the Eco bus lane vanity scheme so I can't imagine what this area will be like when the summer recycling and gardening season starts.
But at least the private profit making bus company has been given swathes of road to make more profit for its shareholders.
I will be checking to ensure council tax payers are not funding any resurfacing activities in these privately owned stretches of lane in future. That must be funded by the shareholders.
That would be wrong.

The green scam is like any religion - the more rational objections that are raised seems only to make the followers more devout in their faith. Sanctimony and idiocy are also essential for people saving the planet 'one plastic bag at a time'.

Total B S
Of course we would love to drive Hydrogen powered cars but they are not available nor is the fuel
Some might arrive in 2016 but will cost in excess of £100,000 each
Davey Crokedhead and his crew are looking into funding 10 Hydrogen Pumps in the City believe it or not! Nothing to pop the stuff in but what a lovely spin factor along with a biosphere!
On the subject of smelly things going up Coldean Lane anyone got behind Davey Crockhead on his bike after a night on the Real Ale and Mung Shoots??

A bus passing through Coldean!! A rare sight indeed!
Timetable says 3 an hour each way till evening, though living near 2 bus stops either side of the road, I often wonder!!

One bus omits the same amount of pollution as 127 cars. With the exception of rush hour the buses run at less than 50% capacity and in some cases with just a handful of passengers. When the new 20mph limit comes into force some bus journeys will take longer. Maybe the bus company is using the advertising to offset the cost of more busses to enable them to adhere to the existing timetable or to pay for an amended timetable. There was me thinking that the green party was for the environment!.

Boing Boing. says...
2:33pm Sat 16 Mar 13

What timetable??!! Even on the indicator boards in town it's not unusual to see a 24 go 6mins...5...4...3...
2...1....Due.......2 min!- then not turn up!!

thevoiceoftruth says...
4:53pm Sat 16 Mar 13

So the bus company has given their overwhelming support by agreeing to advertising on just one bus out of their entire fleet? I do admire their commitment!

The bus was travelling up Coldean Lane but was 'not in service.'
My wife and I did a bus/walk challenge today to head into Brighton from
bear road and we left home at the same time.
I walked to the bus stop on the alewes Road and she walked to Churchill square.
I overtook her on the bus but she beat me by 12 minutes as my bus sat in a queue of buses in north street for ages.
Public transport is so slow. Not only that it was full of foreign student playing dreadful pop music from crappy mobile phones throughout the whole journey.
My missus rekons its quicker to buy a disability scooter and get into town rather than get the bus.
We are looking for a disability tandem scooter and will update you on our speed into town.

Yeah that was one of the two we got second hand from Newbury Buses. Heaps of junk the pair of them.

No they are uncomfortable heaps of rubbish that drink more fuel than a diesel bus and when they switch to electric power all the heating goes off.
