Opposition grows against Sussex wind farm

A controversial wind farm has been opposed by a town council.

Galliford Try Renewables submitted plans for three turbines up to 115 metres tall on land north of the A27 in Polegate earlier this month.

The revised scheme, involving two fewer turbines than in previous plans withdrawn in July, could create enough energy for more than 4,000 homes.

But Polegate Town Council has voted to oppose the plans, claiming they are too noisy, inefficient and dangerous to human and animal health.

A final decision will be made by Wealden District Council.

375 feet high? are we sure, and energy for more than 4000 homes out of just two techno megastructures. fat lot of use when the wind does not blow, more than 4000 freezers start defrosting, WDC kick this project into touch. the only thing it will generate is the taxpayers purse subsidised grants.

"when the wind does not blow, more than 4000 freezers start defrosting"

Even using an alias I would be ashamed of posting such an appalling display of utter ignorance.

Here's how I read stories like this:

WE NEED TO SAVE THE COUNTRY SIDE AND THE TREES AND POLLUTION IS BAD WE NEED ECO FRIENDLY ENERGY LIKE WIND FARMS.

BUT DON'T YOU DARE BUILD WIND FARMS THEY'RE UGLY.

Stupid idiots.

Dangerous to heatlh?

Google "wind farm syndrome" for the list of completely made up illnesses people have attributed to wind farms.

NewScientist has done a good job of de-constructing them all.

Surely Jason Kitkat could power that himself with the amount of hot air he spouts all the time.

No need for a wind farm then.

so the NIMBYs would rather pay for Russian gas and French nuclear energy then?

Im from Cumbria right along the coast you see wind farms everywhere on the south coast which is heavily polpulated everyone objects to windfarms the country is running short of energy, these turbines don't actually need much wind to operate the south coast should take its fair share of windfarms until our energy shortage is solved .

Not only Nuclear but Renewable in Brittany there are Hundreds of Wind Turbines there are a Few Objections here as well also the Construction of Large Solar Panelled Buildings that can also be used for Commercial use

Well if they have a good business plan they shouldn't need any government subsidies at all. If the plan won't work without government money it should be cancelled. It is about time that any new builds either commercial or domestic are either power neutral or preferably power positive before permission is given for building. Covering every warehouse roof with solar panels or every new house roof would cut back continued increased in demand we keep getting now. But then the power industry doesn't want us to become less dependent on their production so it will never happen.

Yes, lets ignore global warming, since we're all Tories here, and build Nuclear power stations in the proles gardens instead, much more safe. At least it wont spoil my view of my estate, and immigrant workers illegally working my inherited land.

Scum. And stupid.

It has been proven that wind turbines are a waist of time and money you can not use them when the wind blows to hard and they dote produce any energy when there is no wind plus the eyesore turbines stick out for miles…

Why can not every home be fitted with solar panels this way you produce your own energy and get to sell some back to the energy grid i.e. less maintenance than the turbines and they dote look out of place on your roof plus you can use them in all sorts of weather therefore no waist of energy.

They are not needed. Global warming is not happening, these are the facts of life.

Yeah, just believe the montrouous taxes we all pay are "because of global warming". They're not. It's all a swindle to fleece us of more money. The whole argument that "more C02 is very bad" is a very weak argument. Hence some cars are charged more than others, and we are made to look very stupid for believing that the form of taxing is actually required!!

The only people that benefit from the ridiculous wind turbines are the daft lefties that get well paid "non jobs" out of the whole energy efficiency farce and of course the foreign companies who manufacturer and maintain them. Lets have a very large nuclear power station that is paid for by the government, not foreign shysters.

My all means object because you think it will spoil the view. But to argue that they are too noisy, inefficient and dangerous to human and animal health is a falsehood. This is not a sound basis for the decisions we need to preserve our future well-being.
