Police and private security staff are gearing up for a mass student protest today (March 25).

More than 1,000 are expected to descend on the University of Sussex in protest against the outsourcing of campus jobs.

Coaches have been arranged from London with youngsters from as far away as Glasgow joining the rally.

It is understood the university has arranged extra security for the day.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman confirmed it was working closely with the university.

She added: “Protest liaison and local neighbourhood policing officers will be on campus to assist the university security teams in seeking to keep everyone safe”.
