I am fed up with people brandishing Falmer High School (FHS) around as if it is the booby prize in some lottery.

My daughter left Falmer High School with an A*, six As, two Bs and a C at GCSE. She studied locally for her A levels and is now at Chelsea College of Art.

I agree that, as a parent, I was apprehensive when she first went to FHS because of its reputation.

However, it soon became apparent that Falmer is a school which cares greatly for its young people and, like any other local school, is somewhere you can achieve.

During her time there it went from strength to strength and is still improving.

Before you start treating Falmer like some pariah, get the facts straight. Its exam results have improved by 15 per cent in the past two years, with more of the students moving onto further education than ever before. This year all but two students left year 11 with qualifications.

Visit the school so you at least know what you are talking about.

It is far removed from the school most parents of secondary school age children will remember from their school days.

One thing is for sure - it does not churn out narrow minded, bigoted snobs.
