A project to upgrade a water pumping station and install a new water main has been shortlisted for an award.

South East Water’s £3 million project near Jevington, on the edge of the South Downs, has been put forward for the South East England Engineering Excellence Awards by the Institution of Civil Engineers.

The project includes a new 6.4km water main and the upgrade of a pumping station in Friston.

Desmond Brown, Head of Engineering at South East Water, said: “Both our engineering team and contractor worked extremely hard to plan and deliver this project and they should be extremely pleased with what they have achieved.

“It was not an easy project with tight timescales and environmental sensitivities which we had to overcome, but the completed project is now bringing huge benefits to the local community.”

The winners will be announced at Leeds Castle near Maidstone, Kent, on Friday, June 7.
