A lucky pooch is back on all four paws after surviving a 150ft clifftop fall.

Eight-month-old border terrier Lola was running at Splash Point in Seaford when she spotted a blackbird near the edge of the cliff.

She chased the bird across the green before running straight over the cliff edge, plummeting 150ft into the sea.

Her owner watched in horror as Lola managed to stay afloat for more than 15 minutes in the sea before a rescuer from Seaford Lifeguards put her onto a paddle board.

Miraculously, Lola survived her ordeal, with only slight injuries and a small amount of water in her lungs.

Lola’s owner, Clare Callard, 47, of Quarry Lane, Seaford, said she was “ecstatic and blessed”.

She said: “We took her for a walk like we normally do and she was running around and playing without a care in the world.

“She chased the bird around for a while until it flew off the edge of the cliff. I then watched as Lola zoomed straight off with it.

“I thought it must have been the end for her, I was in shock.

“A man who was close by told me she would never survive the fall.

“We waited nervously on the beach for the Seaford Lifeguards to help her back to shore. We couldn’t believe she was unharmed.

“One of the rescuers said he had never known a dog to survive falling off the cliff in his 23-year career.”

The incident happened on Saturday.

Nearly a week on, Lola is recovering well and, despite her accident, has not been put off running around and playing.

A Seaford Lifeguards spokeswoman said Lola was not the first dog to run off the cliff.

She said: “It’s not common but it has happened a few times. Lola was very lucky because the tide was in and I suspect she hit the water with quite a thud.

But it’s good to hear she survived and I’m glad our team could help.”
