Traffic ground to a halt yesterday morning after a car fire on the M23.
The driver, who was travelling southbound on the motorway, skilfully pulled over onto the hard shoulder and called emergency services.
The road near the junction with the M25 was closed for more than an hour at about 7am.
Stephen Humphrey, who was driving by soon after, took this picture of firefighters at the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact Sussex Police on 101.
