Firefighters tackled a barn fire in vain for more than seven hours last night.

They were called to the storage property in Brighton Road, Nyetimber, shortly before 5.45pm yesterday evening.

Crews from Hurstpierpoint, Burgess Hill, Henfield and Haywards Heath attended and tried to save the property.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said that “100%” of the roof and interior of the barn had been destroyed.

She added that it was thought to be of “accidental ignition”.

There were no injuries.

Fire investigators will be at the property today.
