A dress has been created from rubbish to reveal the glamorous side of recycling as part of Brighton Fashion Week.

To highlight National Recycle Week 2013, which runs from June 17 to 21, Veolia Environmental Services sponsored the graduate section of the Sustain Fashion Show.

During National Recycle Week, Veolia will be reminding people to think about the three Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle - and reminding people to use their local Household Waste Recycling Site.

Local graduate fashion designer, Daisy Harris- Burland designed a dress completely made from old Veolia flyers and merchandise, which was showcased at the Sustain Fashion Show.

Graduate fashion designer, Daisy Harris-Burland said: “As a designer I have always been inspired by the notion of bringing new life to items that might otherwise be thrown away.

“In my world nothing is deemed as rubbish. I thrive off manipulating materials, and pushing the boundaries of fashion in doing so.

“Creating something beautiful and elegant out of original harsh materials is a challenge I love to accept.”

Martin Benson, Household Waste Recycling sites manager for Veolia Environmental Services South Downs, said: “Recycle Week is a great way to encourage residents to bring items to the recycling sites where they can be put to good use.”
