Famous faces have appeared in the window of a Brighton shop – and it’s all in the name of art.
Images of icons including David Bowie and Andy Warhol have been created on ceramics for an exhibition called Pop Goes Surrealism at the Painting Pottery Cafe in North Road, North Laine.
In the downstairs window are works including paintings, collages and images by Sussex artists Georgeanna Parsons, Joe O’Donovan and Andrea Bristow, while upstairs the cafe’s team is exhibiting their work together.
Inspired by the exhibition of some of the works of the artist Jeff Koons at Brighton Museum, the pop-themed works include ceramics painted with iconic Brighton images and a Koonsstyle image of a couple sitting on a bench with an extra-long sausage dog.
Gill Banks, the cafe’s owner, said: “We were inspired by the Koons exhibition and we wanted to celebrate it with an exciting exhibition of our own.”
Pop Goes Surrealism is at the Painting Pottery Cafe until August 31 and the Jeff Koons exhibition at Brighton Museum continues until September 8.
