Award-winning former BIMM student Tom Odell’s career continues to go from strength to strength. Last year he signed to Columbia on Lily Rose Cooper’s (Allen) label.
She stated in a recent NME article: “He was discovered by a friend of mine. I went to see him play and signed him to my label straight away. His voice is fragile yet powerful. I’m not usually a massive fan of singer-songwriter stuff, but when I saw him live his energy reminded me of David Bowie. He’s totally gorgeous as well.”
Odell was born in Chichester, and attended Seaford College. He won the BRITs Critics’ Choice award this year and recently supported Jake Bugg on his UK tour.
Odell’s debut album, Long Way Down, was released on June 24 and reached No. 1 in the UK Official Chart.
He will support The Rolling Stones at London’s Hyde Park on July 13.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE ARTS AND CULTURE – 2012
For more than 50 years Drusilla Duffill has been working on waltzes and perfecting pirouettes.
She founded Drusilla Duffill Theatre School in 1957, which has become renowned both locally and nationally for the training of young dancers for classical ballet and theatre careers, with many former pupils appearing in commercial theatre, on TV and in ballet companies.
The Mackay family nominated Drusilla last year having been so impressed with her dedication to her pupils.
They said: “Miss Drusilla has been so successful for so long.
“She really knows just how to bring out the best in every child, no matter what their ability.
“Our girls always come out of class sating they’ve really enjoyed it.
“When we watch class at the end of term, we are always amazed at howfar children have come along in just ten weeks.
“There are lots of great opportunities above and beyond dance classes.
“Our girls have been able to take exams, enter competitions and perform in shows. They love the excitement of practising for exams and attending rehearsals and which child wouldn’t be thrilled by the chance to put on a beautiful costume and have their hair styled specially?
I’m sure these experiences will be some of the highlights of my girls’ childhoods.”
