New £25 million Albion catering contract announced
A controversial caterer has taken over at the home of Brighton and Hove Albion – but the fan’s favourites are staying on the menu.
Global caterting company Sodexo has netted a five-year catering and hospitality contract at the American Express Community Stadium.
The contract is worth £25 million over the five years.
All Albion match day retail, hospitality, restaurant catering, conference and events catering, and sales and marketing services will be delivered by the giant group.
Last season, the Seagulls dramatically dumped catering firm Azure after complaints from fans.
Sodexo runs the catering facilities for football grounds, public attractions and hospitals.
It was at the centre of a row last year when its staff at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, threatened to walk out in a dispute over hours and redundancies.
Jo Philips, boss at Piglet’s Pantry in Worthing, said her firm and Harveys Brewery are looking forward to kicking off the new season at the American Express Community Stadium in Falmer.
She said: “I am looking forward to working with Sodexo. I have met with the staff and they have some great ideas for new products.
"Piglet’s and Harveys are firmly in the starting line-up for next season.”
Jeremy Dicks, Sodexo Prestige managing director for sports and leisure, said: “A joint vision with Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club is at the heart of our partnership.
"We would like create a perfect match between Sodexo and the club, with a fan-centric approach, inspired by the energetic community spirit, which is evident on both match day and non-match day.
“We share the club’s ambition to create a place that is simply the best experience in Brighton and Hove.”
Simon Williams, head of commercial development at Brighton and Hove Albion, said: “We undertook a comprehensive tendering process and were extremely excited by Sodexo Prestige’s innovation and attention to detail.”
