School site in Lewes has a spiritual future
11:00am Monday 15th July 2013 in News
A former school is set to be sold to a spiritual group.
Officers at East Sussex County Council have recommended St Anne’s School site in Rotten Row, Lewes, is handed over to Subud, which is currently based in Station Road in the town.
Despite not making the highest offer for the site, the council said it was impressed by the design of proposed community halls and deemed the proposed cash purchase represented the least risk.
A report to be discussed by councillors before the decision is made tomorrow said the Lewes Community Land Trust and the YMCA also bid for the plot.
The authority states that repair costs for the site are more than £1 million while maintaining and securing the property costs more than £25,000 a year.
