Serial Sussex shoplifter spared jail
A SERIAL shoplifter was spared jail but told he must attend supervision appointments with probation workers.
Drug-user Jamie Hubbard, 32, of Priory Road, Eastbourne, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he admitted four counts of shoplifting, two of attempted shoplifting and one of burglary.
The court was told how he targeted supermarkets and DIY stores in Hailsham, Polegate, Bexhill and Lewes.
Among the items he stole included cleaning products and air fresheners from the Co-op in Bexhill on May 17. On April 29 he stole champagne from the One Stop in Polegate.
The burglary related to an incident at Wickes in Hailsham where he tried to steal a Dyson Hoover, Sonia Flijami, prosecuting, said.
Ray Pape, defending, said he was a “Class A drug user”. He congratulated his attempts to get clean.
Hubbard was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
