Police hunt oblivious driver after Eastbourne crash
7:00am Tuesday 23rd July 2013 in News
Police believe a driver may have no idea she caused a cyclist to fall off his bike causing serious injuries.
The accident happened about 5.30pm on Monday July 15 when a cyclist was flung from his bike after an unidenti- fied car, pulled across his path on the A259 East Dean Road in Eastbourne.
The driver – thought to be a woman – appeared to have seen the cyclist but as the cyclist drew near, the car pulled across its path causing the cyclist to brake hard and take avoiding action by mounting the footpath.
The 46-year-old rider lost control of his bicycle and landed on the ground where he was knocked unconscious.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries to his chest, arms and face.
PC Michael Dunn of the Sussex Road Policing Unit at Polegate said; “We are seeking any witnesses to this incident between the Downs Golf Club and the Youth Hostel Association building.
“We want to trace the driver of the car and the car the vehicle itself.
" As there was no actual contact between the cyclist and the car, possibly an older model blue Vauxhall Astra, the driver may not realise that she has been involved in a collision, but we do need to speak to her.”
Anyone who can help should call Sussex Police on 101.
