Parent share their big day with Royal couple
MUMS and dads across Sussex were last night celebrating their new arrivals – on the same day as the birth of the Royal baby.
Yesterday afternoon the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy and all children born in the county yesterday will receive a silver commemorative coin from the Royal Mint.
Royal namesake Katie Tye, 36, gave birth to Hannah Isabelle at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton shortly before 10am.
Hannah, who was six days overdue, weighed 9lb 2oz.
Proud dad Sam Tye, 44, from Hollingbury, Brighton, said he was excited that his daughter will share the same birthday as Kate and William’s first child.
He said: “We were aware quite early on about the royal baby as everyone was talking about it. It's all been very exciting.
“It will be nice for Hannah to have the same date of birth and it will certainly be a story she will be able to tell her grandchildren about.
“The commemorative coin is a nice touch as well. Maybe when we get home we'll put a Union Flag in the window to help celebrate.”
Royal births are something of a tradition for Matt Godwin and Lisa Kellow's family.
Ms Kellow's great aunt was born around the same time as the Queen's sister Princess Margaret in 1930. The couple were yesterday celebrating the arrival of their son, Remy Godwin, who arrived at Worthing Hospital just after 10.30am, weighing almost 6lb.
Mr Godwin, 32, from Shoreham, said: “We both had a sneaky feeling it was going to hap- pen on the same day.
“We arrived at the hospital at around 8am and obviously by then we had already heard the news.
“It is nice.
“It's a special occasion and it is something we will all be able to look back on and celebrate.
“Having the commemorative coin will also be nice for him.”
Cheyenne Leonard is another baby who will be sharing the same birthday as the third in the line to the throne.
Her mother Stephanie Picknell, 31, of Adelaide Square, Shoreham, gave birth at Worthing Hospital shortly before 6.30am.
Cheyenne has three older siblings, Zoe, 11, Ashley, eight and Zeion, three.
