Thousands log on to go behind the scenes with Sussex Police
7:37am Friday 26th July 2013 in News
Thousands of people logged on to catch a behind the scenes glimpse of activities at Sussex Police's Kingstanding training site.
The Be the Police for a Day event is part of Sussex Police People: 10 days live, a series of activities and open days across the county for the public to get a better understanding of how the force works to keep them safe.
The children enjoyed trips in a police 4x4 through a forest as part of an exercise in which they searched for a missing person, toured an underground nuclear bunker, used kit to investigate a car crash, met the search dogs and forensically examined a crime scene.
They asked testing questions of the officers and staff, threw themselves into exercises enthusiastically and ended the day wearing smiles.
Online viewers also took part in question and answer sessions in a chatroom through the day.
Superintendent Grenville Wilson said: "Both the children and our officers and staff really enjoyed the day.
"We were able to engage with them about what we do and we learned some lessons about how we can better explain our roles."
