Swimmer turns down rescuers
8:20am Friday 26th July 2013 in News
LIFEBOAT crews were called to help a German tourist spotted clinging on to a buoy.
Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Hello Herbie went to the rescue of a swimmer half a mile off Camber Sands at about 4.15pm on Monday. He had been clinging to a buoy for about 15 minutes.
When the crew arrived alongside the swimmer, in his mid 20s, he declined to be rescued telling the volunteers that he was not in difficulty and wanted to continue his swim.
Richard Tollett, lifeboat operations manager at Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Station said: “Not everyone we go to rescue perceives that they are in danger.”
