Kiss for a hard road to diploma as University of Brighton graduates celebrate
10:30am Friday 26th July 2013 in News
A proud toddler gave his mum a hug and a kiss after she collected her diploma following a tough journey through university.
Three-year-old Riley Brennan was at his mother Marijka’s side as she graduated from the University of Brighton yesterday.
Mrs Brennan became pregnant with Riley and had to take extended leave from her mental health nursing course when her son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.
She returned to the course two years later and three-year-old Riley, now doing well, was at the Brighton Dome with dad Mitchell and brother Herbie, two, to cheer as his mother collected her diploma.
Mrs Brennan, who lives with her family in Eastbourne, works for Mind in Health Primary Care which helps people with mild and moderate mental health issues.
She will be using her skills in Australia later this year when she and her family emigrate.
She said: “My course was brilliant and I’d recommend it – the mentors and lecturers were excellent.”
