Nominations have been flooding in for this year's Argus Achievement Awards - but we still want more.

We have had a host of inspirational teachers, carers and parents along with deserving charities, volunteers and local heroes.

However, we are still in need of your nominations for loving grandparents, sporting heroes and dedicated green projects or people.

A select panel will then decide on a shortlist for the lavish awards ceremony at Brighton's Theatre Royal on October 6.

To give you an idea of the calibre of entries we are looking for, here are two of the deserving early nominees.

A popular nominee for our Contribution to Sussex Sport has been Brighton and Hove Hockey Club coach Wendy Russell.

The dedicated player/manager gives up much of her free time to help out at the club and develop young players.

Natalie Dodd, who put her name forward, described her as an “inspiration”.

She said: “Wendy coaches almost everyone night of the week plus weekends - whatever the weather.

“She is so brilliant and the development of the junior and ladies side of the club just wouldn't happen without her dedication and encouragement.”

The Argus:

Keen environmentalist Alice Johnson, of Seven Dials, Brighton, put forward Sussex Freegle founder Cat Fletcher.

The volunteer set up and now runs the site which helps find new homes for unwanted household items.

Miss Johnson said: “She has helped countless people over the years in finding used items which would have otherwise ended up on the scrap heap.

“Not only is this a huge help to those on low income but also to the environment.

“She has given up many hundreds of hours and is truly deserving of this award.”

If you know any inspirational individuals to match these two then please get in touch. We need as many of your nominations as possible.

To nominate go to theargus.co.uk/aaa13 or email ben.james@theargus.co.uk.

The closing date for entries is September 7.

We are looking for your votes on who should win our Outstanding Contribution to Sussex award.

We launched the category with a shortlist of five last week - and now want you to pick the winner.

The nominees are Sussex and England cricketer Matt Prior, Argus veteran journalist Adam Trimingham, Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, author Peter James and broadcaster Simon Fanshawe.

Only one person can win and they will be decided by you.
