The owners of a tortoise which went missing for five days have thanked the community for coming together to help return their much loved pet to his girlfriend.
Rosie Jenkins, 28, and Lee Northam, 27, were distraught after Mr T went missing from their friend’s garden in Wood Green on Friday, August 2.
The couple put up posters, leaflets and organised search parties to help find the seven-year-old leopard tortoise in order to reunite him with his female companion Mrs T.
Ms Jenkins, who lives off Seven Sisters Road, said the people of Wood Green were very supportive during their search.
She said: “Everyone in the area was so lovely and sweet and they seemed genuinely concerned for Mr T’s wellbeing.
“I was looking in the park and a little girl came over to help and there were teenagers in the area who were also on the lookout.
“People offered to put up posters and hand out leaflets and everyone was just really supportive.”
Mr T was returned safe and sound to his owners at around 8am this morning.
A builder working in the house next door had taken him home after seeing him in their friend’s garden and assumed he was a stray.
However once he saw the missing posters he brought Mr T back.
The 28-year-old added: “I have lived in Haringey for more than two years now and you have this idea that people in London aren’t very nice but I was really surprised.
“I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped – it was very sweet.”
